Puff the Bearded Dragon

It was sometime in October. We had been at Cathy's house, and the kids found a salamander. We brought her home, made a neat habitat for her in a 10-gallon tank, loved and cared for her for 6 days, and then ... she passed away. Oh, the heartbreak. Not as bad as when Flappy died (of course I haven't shared about her either!), but it was enough that I said, "Enough is enough. It's time to find a small creature that will not die on us in a few short weeks!"

I started googling "Best Lizards for Kids" and also asking about it on Facebook. Oh, Facebook, how I love thee. We found Rylee on Facebook back in 08/2009. Anyway, this time, I had a fellow MTEC friend who messaged me about bearded dragons. After researching them and their needs, I decided that that was the perfect little pet for us.

I found beardeddragon.org, which appears to be THE site to go to for info on dragons. I eventually found a breeder there in the "For Sale" section, and after scrolling endless pictures of little baby dragons, I found the one. He was discounted because of a slight bend in his tail, but it wasn't very noticeable. Of course I had to post the picture of him on Facebook right away!

Everyone seemed to love the little guy and the idea of getting him, except my husband. Of course! He did offer the name suggestion of "Puff" one day, but he was mostly joking, I think. Alayna really liked that name, and then it was also suggested by a fellow MTECer and co-worker of mine, too. We decided to go with Puff. :) Now that he had a name, he just needed to wait until some good shipping weather, as he had to travel from Florida! In the meantime, his breeder at Rio Reptiles sent me some pictures of Puff.

Finally he arrived on 10/20/2010. He had been shipped the night before, and I tracked him all the way to the delivery truck. I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Now it's been 2 months since we've had Puff-Man, as I like to call him. He's as much fun as he was when we got him. I'll let the kids hold him as they read to me, or I'll put him on Maria, and she'll stay really still so he doesn't scurry away. I can actually feed him his food, dubia, AKA roaches! He chews them with happiness. Maria cheers and shouts, "PUFF-MAN ATE HIS ROACHIES!"

Now you know about Puff! More updates later!

First video

My brother Kevin is here, making an "ossim" video of our dragon, Puff. I don't believe I've shared about him yet! Anyway, Kevin inspired me to slightly edit the one thing on my camcorder, my kiddos. :)

Well, hey!

I've been a little busy. Adding full-time work to normal home and homeschooling life has been interesting, for sure. Just wanted to update and say that I'm still here, and that I plan to do more blogging in the future.

For now, here's a pic of the kiddos at a recent IKEA trip:
