I've been wanting to do a themed kid party for a few years now. Heck, a kid party without a theme would work, too! (A "kid party" being a party we invite other kids to. Normally we invite close family to the birthday kid's dinner.) I have to confess, though. Life was just busy with always having a baby in the house! Of course I had to complicate it by either knitting for Adventure Knits or doing school (M-TEC), and then working as a medical transcriptionist. Even so, I had every intention of doing a kid party for Serena and Aaron last year, but they both were sick around that time. For Alayna's birthday, she wanted a trip to get her ears pierced.
However, we are now close to Serena's birthday once again. On October 24, I posted on Facebook that I had the idea to make an Angry Birds party for her this year. Then I googled it. I had no idea my idea had already been covered in great detail! Obviously there are a lot of people who have kids who love Angry Birds! It's been fun to search Etsy, Amazon, and Ebay for ideas. And now that I have more time, I can be creative like I've always wanted to be but never had the time. Now I can atone for the missed opportunities I've had in the past.
Serena really loves Angry Birds. All the kids do, but she seems to especially love playing it. We all started playing Angry Birds when I got my Nook Color. I downloaded the app, and we were hooked. We beat all the levels, and then it was my quest to get 3 stars in every level. I'm such a nerd, I know! I'm not a gamer, but I do enjoy this game because it's fun to play a level or two as I wait for pancakes or toast. Later in the summer I got a Droid X2, so the entire Android Market opened up to me ... which meant more Angry Birds! After that I rooted my Nook Color, so we're able to play all the Angry Birds on there, too ... anyway ...
I was thinking about the children I want to invite to the party, and I realized most will not know anything about Angry Birds! Pretty funny that I would choose this as a theme, huh. It's such an easy theme to have, with easy-to-find colors. We'll just have to give a crash course on the birds and what they do! I'm sure Serena would love for me to hook up the laptop to the TV and play a few rounds!
A few days ago, I started a sheet in OneNote for all of the links I'd found, ideas, etc. I have started the invites and some decorations today, but I can't work on them while Serena is around, so it has to be early morning or late at night. She's already seen a few of my Chrome tabs with Angry Birds stuff on them, so I need to be more careful! I'll post Part 2 after I take some pictures of this morning's work.
